Insurance Indemnity Related to Accident at Work or Occupational Disease     

The following persons are entitled to receive the insurance compensation: socially insured, who due to a job injury or occupational disease who has a temporary incapacity for work, loss of ability to work or death.

In the event of death of the insured person incapable of work family members, who have been supported by the deceased person are entitled to insurance compensation.

Types of insurance compensation:

  • sickness benefit;
  • compensation for the loss of capacity for work;
  • lump sum benefit (instead of compensation for the capacity for work if the loss of ability to work for the lifetime amounts to 10 - 24%);
  • compensation for additional expenses, that are connected with medical treatment and rehabilitation, care, purchasing and repair of technical aids, travel costs for visiting the physician.

If resulting from the job accident or occupational disease the insured person dies, then the family members are entitled to:

  • compensation for loss of the breadwinner;
  • funeral benefit.

Insurance compensation is allocated in accordance with the law On the compulsory social insurance against job injuries and occupational diseases.

Procedure of insurance compensation calculation are determined by the CM regulations No 50 from 16 February 1999 Procedure of granting and calculation of the compulsory social insurance against job injuries and occupational diseases.

Procedure of compensation for additional expenses resulting from a job injury or occupational disease is determined by the CM regulations No 299 from August 11 1998 Procedure of compensations for additional expenses to the insured person resulting form a job injury or after a stated occupational disease.

When applying for the insurance contribution benefit the person must submit:

  • application for the insurance compensation;
  • statement about the job accident or statement about the stated occupational disease issued by the Health and Capacity for Work Expert Physicians’ Commission (HCWEPC)

Additional documents for receiving of some benefits and compensations:

1. for sickness benefit – medical certificate (sick leave);

2. for compensation for the loss of capacity for work - HCWEPC statement excerpt about the patient’s loss of capacity for work;

3. for compensation for additional expenses – documents proving the need for additional expenses and their amount;

4. for compensation of the loss of breadwinner:

  • note from the health care institution about the connection of the cause of death with the job accident or occupational disease;
  • death certificate;
  • documents proving kinship or marriage, incapacity for work or the fact of dependency.

Documents can be submitted to any local office of the SSIA.

When applying for the benefit a personal ID document has to be produced.

Amount of any insurance compensation depends on the average contribution wage, that is determined for a six month period (omitting two months before the month, when the job injury occurred or the occupational disease has been stated.)

Sickness benefit is allocated in the amount of 80% from the average contribution wage and is paid:

  • in the event of job accident starting from the 11 day of incapacity for work;
  • if the insured person has fallen ill with an occupational disease, starting from the 1st day of incapacity for work.

The amount of the compensation for the loss of capacity for work is calculated depending on the percentage of the loss of the capacity for work stated by the HCWEPC and the average insurance wage.

Lump sum benefit is calculated in the amount of 3 -18 month average contribution wage depending on percentage of the loss of the capacity for work.

Amount of compensation for the loss of the breadwinner depends on the number of the dependants and the average contribution wage.

Insurance Indemnity Related to Accident at Work or Occupational Disease (after 01.01.1997) can be received at the beneficiary’s place of residence ortransferred to the beneficiary’s account at the bank or postal accounts system (PNS).
