The following persons are entitled to receive family state benefit - citizens of Latvia living in Latvia, non-citizens, foreign citizens and stateless persons, who have received personal ID number.
The benefit is not granted to persons, who have received a temporary residence permit.
Benefit is granted to one of the child’s parents or his guardian or the person who actually is bringing up the child and who is approved by the orphan court (parish court) for the child who has been allocated a personal ID number.
This benefit is granted to the child himself after he reaches the age of 18, if before that he has been under guardianship.
Benefit is granted in accordance with the law On the state social benefits articles 6 and 16.
When applying for the child care benefit the person must submit:
- application for the benefit;
- child’s certificate of birth;
- notification from the educational establishment, if the child is still studying at the general school or vocational school and is not receiving scholarship.
If the benefit is claimed by the child’s guardian or the person actually bringing up the child, then the orphan court (parish court) decision on establishment of guardianship or the decision establishing the fact of actual upbringing has to be submitted in addition.
Documents can be submitted to any local office of the SSIA.
When applying for the benefit a personal ID document has to be produced.
The family state benefit amount depends on the total number of children in the family:
- for the first child 8 LVL per month,
- for the second child 9,60 LVL per month,
- for the third child 12,80 LVL per month,
- for the fourth and the following - 14,40 LVL per month.

Family state benefit is transferred to the beneficiary’s account at the bank or postal accounts system (PNS).
